Students from age 8 years, have the option to learn basic contemporary dance skills and techniques in both open work and with the NZAMD syllabus. The huge range of movement vocabulary that Contemporary dance encompasses means classes will be varied, fun and also challenging enough for each specific age/ability of the students. Catch and release, grounded movements, floorwork and partnering work are just a few of the things that may be taught in Contemporary classes.
Although the style for this genre is non-specific, it is recommended the keen contemporary dance student has had prior dance training, ideally in classical ballet. Aspiring professional ballet dancers are advised to also attend contemporary dance lessons once they reach our recommended age, as most ballet companies require their dancers to be able to perform both genres.
