Adult ballet classes

All our Adult Dance Classes are at our New Lynn venue

Adult Ballet

Adult Ballet* classes are relaxed, friendly and inclusive. The benefits of taking a ballet class include improved posture and co-ordination, musicality and the opportunity to exercise muscle groups that we take for granted in our daily lifestyle, such as those in the foot. You'll also meet some great people who are just as keen to learn about ballet as you are!

Our Advanced Beginner class is ideal for anyone who took ballet in their younger days, and is familiar with some basic ballet positions and terms (battement tendu, demi pointe, pirouette). The class starts at the barre as we slowly prepare our muscles (and mind!) to achieve short ballet sequences in the centre of the room, unsupported.

What to wear to dance class?

Fitted clothing that allows unrestricted movement such as leggings and a fitted top are ideal. A warm top in winter at the start of class is advisable. Ballet shoes are not necessary for your first class; socks will be fine. Should you decide to continue dance classes, ballet shoes should be purchased. We are happy to suggest stockists if you are unsure where to purchase them. For health and safety reasons, no jewellery is to be worn and long hair is to be tied back.

Advanced Beginner Ballet I
TBC for Term 1, 2018

A fun, friendly class aimed to inspire and engage our Adult dancers. Although still at beginner level, this class is for those with prior ballet or dance experience as the classical basic fundamentals will not be taught or explained in-depth. We recommend the participants of this class already know their ballet basics and are familiar with the classical ballet positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th arms/legs). Our adult participants have the opportunity to join KMS in their end of year concert.
